Yo El Rey - Just Kidding Sauvignon Blanc 2023

100% Sauvignon Blanc made from 20 year old vines from a special site in Tulbagh. When he started to make wine Angelo swore he would never make a Sauvignon Blanc. After a few years in the industry, and tasting some amazing and unusual Sauvignons coming out of Austria, he was finally driven to make his own, inspiring the name 'Just Kidding'.

This wine was the trigger for falling back in love with Sauvignon, and this style of making it, emphasizing complexity and it's own varietal character, with jolts of acidity and bold pineapple and tropical fruit freshness. 

Modal’s own Angelo van Dyk is the winemaker behind the Yo El Rey project, drawing inspiration from the wine scene in the UK, his current home, and South Africa, where he was born and raised. These wines are crafted in South Africa, working with negoce fruit sourced from friends, trusted farmers and small, organic growers around South Africa's Cape Town. The wines are made in Stellenbosch in a low intervention way, prioritising a style of wine that's energetic, vibrant and ultimately extremely drinkable.
