Victoria Torres Pecis - Las Machuqueras 2016/2019

Pure volcanic goodness from the tiny island of La Palma in the Canaries, the most north westerly of the Canary Islands. This is made from old bush vines that have been clinging on to a wind-battered slope in the island's Southwest for over 120+ years. This is a single vineyard cuvee, the soils here are pure black volcanic ash, giving the wine a distinct flintiness, a dominant mineral backbone, gorgeous fruit and a hint of smokiness.   

Victoria Torres is one of the very few growers still producing wine on La Palma. The work is painstaking and the yields are minuscule, but the results are more than worth the effort. She makes wines that have it all - a strong sense of place, intense complexity, buckets of energy, and that little extra 'magic' that you can't learn or replicate.
