(Khasmi, Iori Valley, Georgia)
A blend of Kisi, Khikvi, Mtsvane and Rkatsiteli, all classic Georgian varieties, an unusual field blend from an estate focused on single-varietal wines. George Wolski works with a gentle approach, and his wine is often a lighter style than the more intense style common in Khaketi allthough he works within the traditions of the region, using Qvervi and no additives. This has only two days of skin contact before being aged in a 500l Qvervri for 15 months. The label features his son Andrias foot-stomping grapes.
George Wolski is the winemaker behind the Andrias Gvino project, named his son, with roots in his families small cellar in the village of Khasmi. While commercial winemaking was prohibited in the Soviet era, like many Georgians his grandfather grew and made wine for the family in the traditional style, using just three Qvevri. After their passing George walked away from a career as telecom CEO to follow their path. He champions the potential of naturally farmed wines in Georgia and his cellar has grown to 60 qvevri while remaining rooted in family and the soil.
