(Khasmi, Iori Valley, Georgia)
Made from 100% Rkatisteli, a classic variety known for traditional amber wine. George Wolski works with a gentle approach, and his wine is often a lighter style and less tannic than the more intense style common in Khaketi, although he works within the traditions of the region, using Qvervi and no additives. This wine has 7 days of skins and a year in Qvevri, enough time to develop deep spicy flavours, with notes of herbs and dried fruit.
George Wolski is the winemaker behind the Andrias Gvino project, named his son, with roots in his families small cellar in the village of Khasmi. While commercial winemaking was prohibited in the Soviet era, like many Georgians his grandfather grew and made wine for the family in the traditional style, using just three Qvevri. After their passing George walked away from a career as telecom CEO to follow their path. He champions the potential of naturally farmed wines in Georgia and his cellar has grown to 60 qvevri while remaining rooted in family and the soil.
